Oral & Dental Care

Your pet’s oral and dental health is important; without it, your pet has a hard time ingesting the proper nourishment, which can lead to other kinds of health problems.

Periodontal disease (disease of the gums) floods the rest of the body with bacteria and the by-products of inflammation, causing damage to internal organs such as the kidneys, liver and heart. Additionally, periodontal disease may lead to oral cancer, an often life-threatening issue.

Atlantic Veterinary Hospital is a full-service dental care facility. We strive to find and treat dental disease early to minimize health care problems and associated pain for your pet (and added cost for you).

Our services include:

  • routine prophylaxis (teeth cleaning & tissue assessment), including the very popular Non-Anesthetic Teeth Cleaning option for appropriate patients
  • digital dental x-rays
  • dental extractions (if necessary)
  • oral surgery

If additional oral surgical services are needed, such as root canals or jaw resection, we have established relationships with specialists in this field and will make the necessary referral.

Like all of our services, dental and oral checkups and treatment are tailored exclusively to the needs of your pet. These exams and recommendations for treatment are based on the size, age, breed and health of your pet.

Your pet’s regular wellness exams will include a complete dental exam. Should you notice a concern in the interim, we encourage you to bring your pet in to see us and we’ll take care of the problem.

Home dental care is a significant part of well care for your pet. We are happy to demonstrate the correct technique for brushing and the hospital stocks a supply of dental care products for home use.
